B+K wholly family-owned
|
 | February 22nd, 2007 |
Bischof + Klein is once again 100% family-owned. The shareholders are the branches of the Klein and Günther families. Since the start of the year, Gerd Sundermann, previously head of sales within the Technical Films Division, has been the third managing director alongside Horst Sundermann and Dr. Volker Pfennig. | The increased commitment of the present shareholders is leading to the departure of Mondi Packaging, which previously held a 40% stake in the B+K GROUP. In turn, the former co-shareholder will take over Austrian subsidiary NAPIAG Kunststoffverarbeitung GmbH (NKV) from Bischof + Klein. | In 2006, the Group generated turnover totalling around 500 million euro, confirming its position as one of the leading full-service suppliers of flexible industrial and consumer packaging and technical films in Europe. | In the future, the B+K GROUP will carry out production at nine plants, with some 2400 employees around the world. In Germany, around 1800 employees work for B+K. Further plants are located in Belgium, France, Great Britain, Luxembourg, Poland, Saudi Arabia and Spain. | The company was founded in 1892 by Alwin Klein and Hermann Bischof. In 1922, B+K entered the packaging market with an innovation: Instead of the jute sacks common at the time, the neighbouring cement industry was supplied with paper sacks. | During the "economic miracle", B+K recognised the significance of consumer packaging at an early stage, and experienced a boom in this division in the 80s. At the same time, Bischof + Klein carried out pioneering work in the development of plastic films and packaging. On the whole, the company is profiting, with its wide range of products, from the constantly growing market for flexible packaging. |
